I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone. Hands down, this is my all time favorite part of the year. I LOVE it, all of it. The snow, the lights, the cookies, the shopping and most importantly, the family moments.

This Christmas season I'm finding I have been able to soak in those moments in a little more. Our kitchen is almost finished and I catch myself just staring around the house, and at the girls playing in it, and feel happy, content and thankful. It's truly a home of happiness and love. Swoon...

FROM US TO YOU... MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS! ... and Happy Birthday to Jesus!

...back to reality! The shoot lasted about 4 minutes in TOTAL time. My children are CONSTANT reminders as to WHY I don't photograph anything but happy, cooperative couples in love! haha :)

Christmas is almost here! As many of you know, we have been remodeling our kitchen for the last month. I will post before and after photos soon, there is still a lot to do! Well, I knew I wanted the kitchen in working order for Christmas time so I could host a family Christmas cookie day.

As children, my cousins and I would all gather at one of the aunties homes to decorate Christmas cookies. It was so much fun and my memories of it stand out amongst the thousands of holiday moments.

My hope is that Lucy and Ruby can have memories just the same and think of their childhood Christmas' with peace, love and JOY!

Lisa & Adam THE ENGAGEMENT

Lisa & Adam are planning a super unique, destination wedding in Key West. Judging by the endless Florida props they brought to the engagement session, it's sure to be a wedding to remember!

I have to laugh at Lisa and Adams two dogs. When Lisa said she was going for cute dog photos, not "crazy dog lady" I didn't expect bride and groom dog customes. But, if I do say so myself, they turned out pretty cute!

Lisa and Adam, thank you for being so fun and braving the crazies of the world with me that night! :) You were amazing and the wedding is sure to be perfection in paradise! :)

Brittney & Ryan THE WEDDING

Brittney & Ryan choose the wedding date of 11.11.11. It was such a beautiful date for their beautiful wedding. It was actually our last wedding for 2011 and I am so happy I got to spend it with these two love birds.

Brittney and Ryan make you feel like family. They are so warm and gracious. I'm sure that has something to do with the fact their own families are so amazing. Plus, their daughter, is one of the most precious things I have ever seen. Although, she was kind of put out by the fact that mommy forgot to get her a princess crown. :)

The details these two put into their wedding were so unique! Just look at those custom belts! Got to love Etsy! I hope you all take time to love and adore this wedding as much as we did!

Lacey & Dustin are the movie couple. These two are so adorable and have been in love from the time they were itty bitty! :) They first started dating in early elementary school. Then they broke up, he dated her best friend, elementary style, and that was ok with Lacey. But THEN he also broke up with her friend and started dating a girl Lacey and her best friend disapproved of. Now, that was not ok! :) Apparantly, Dustin was quick the charmer.

Dustin eventually came to his senses and decided that Lacey was the one. They were high school sweeties and have made it the long haul. It's a wedding and engagement their family and friends have REALLY been looking forward to! :)

Samantha & Josh THE WEDDING

Samantha & Josh had a gorgeous, Green Bay Wedding. The details were in overload and in every corner one could turn to. Which means, I was a happy girl! :) From the hundreds of pumpkins and gourds to the caramel apples and hot cocoa, you could feel the autumn love at this wedding.

Samantha and Josh are the people you run into in the world and just KNOW they are perfect for one another. They both love hard and smile hard. They live life to the fullest and would give you anything in a heartbeat. They are one of the most beautiful couples I have ever known.

A little example of that was their first dance. They started off on a traditional note and then instantly broke into a fabulous dance routine that involved about a dozen, fun loving, tunes. They jumped around the dance floor like children in love. It was perfection and it was them!

Julia and Derrick were married one year ago. The past year has brought them both the joy of being newlyweds and the hardships of life itself. You really never know what this world is going to throw your way but these two have handled it all with grace.

Their love for each other is even more evident now, one year later. I wish more couples would think to be photographed after their wedding. It's an amazing way to document your marriage. Jessica and Kevin are sweet. Like really, REALLY sweet. You kind of fall in love with them as soon as you meet them. They made my job so, incredibly easy. They just laughed, smiled and loved each other. It was exactly as any engagement session should be.

I met Jessica four years ago at her sister, Jennys, wedding to Sam. It was a such a fun wedding to photograph and their entire family was truly just as sweet as Jessica & Kevin themselves. I am REALLY looking forward to the big day next year.

Caitlin & Brian THE WEDDING

Caitlin and Brian had a wedding that will never, EVER be forgotten by anyone who attended. It was exquisite and detail oriented. Her dress was to die for and from the ceremony to the reception, everything flowed perfectly. BUT, that's not why it will forever be remembered. I think that may have a little something more to do with Star Wars & the Milwaukee Sausages!

It's probably not what you are thinking. :) It just so happened that on the day of Caitlin and Brians wedding at Pier Wisconsin, the Star Wars "people" were having a convention. AND! it just so happened the parties collided in the grass while the Star Wars characters were leaving and the wedding party was arriving.

Well, then comes the sausages. Caitlin and Brian hired the Milwaukee Brewer Sausages to come and get their dance and party started. Let me tell you, that they did. If you want to get all your guests on their feet just hire 5, 12 foot, dressed up sausages. They will get the job done! PROMISE!

This is France, again. Adams first ever time using the Contax. Yes, I actually let him touch it! :)

Janelle & Robert THE WEDDING

Janelle and Robert had a wedding that was TRULY them. It was sooo incredibly unique, it was obvious only their own minds, plus some help from the fabulous Sash and Bow team could pull it off!

We started at Lambeau Field. When I first saw Robert he was ecstatic that he got to wear a superbowl championship ring to start off his day. Great beginning for the groom, hey? :) These love birds were then wed in the end zone in all that Packer glory.

While they were saying their vows I could not help but remember and be thankful for Robert and Janelles commitment to our country. They are both in the military and now serve as one team. LOVE IT! :) Too sweet...

The last part of their day took place at Tundra Lodge where they transformed a room into Halloween fun. It was a little scary but OH SOOOO FUN! :) Complete with the most incredible cake by The Runaway Spoon, eyeball candies, worms emerging from creme brulee and a bright red chocolate fountain. The red uplighting created an eerie feeling and the decor just didn't stop!

LAST THING :) Don't forget to notice the bouquets! All made by the mother of the bride with vintage brooches. LOVE!

For the first time in many, many days the sun woke up the morning with beauty. The drive to High Cliff State Park was peaceful and breathtaking. The park itself had fall written all over it. The air was still very crisp but the suns light was a photographers dream... all day long. :)

Justine and Eric had an intimate wedding that was easy going and stunning. The details were everywhere. From the perfectly decorated tent tables to the frosted cake adorned with berries. I'm such a sucker for inspiring details.

Also, I just have to point out that you MUST take a good look at Justines ring. WHY? Because it's amazing! Why else! :)

Angie & Brian THE ENGAGEMENT

A sunny, Door County engagement session. Complete with orchards, pumpkins, mums and lots of romance. It's my kind of day. Gotta love autumn in Wisconsin- it's movie worthy! :)

Angie and Brian were so kind to be up for my crazy antics. They followed me into a WILDLY overgrown field because they trusted. On top of that, Angie is terrified, and I mean TERRIFIED, of bees. She did great seeing how we probably ran into 20 while we were shooting the engagement session!

I had to laugh at myself during this one. I usually don't give a second thought to trespassing for shoots. It's kind of a given when you are a photographer. The pretty things that are usually untouched, are not public places. BUT- this time the police kept driving by and turning their sirens on with that kind of "warning" sound. It made me totally paranoid! But, we got out safe. We were not arrested. Plus, we had some gorgeous photos to boot!

This is the exact spot that Brian proposed! Too sweet...

Heather & Kevin THE WEDDING

Heather and Kevin met when they both worked at the Green Bay Country Club. So, it could not have been more fitting for them to hold their own wedding there. It was so intimate and full of great friends. The best part was that everyone could tell they truly felt at home.

On top of that, the day was GORGEOUS! A cool, fall breeze was blowing in for the season, the sun was shining and the autumn flowers were in bloom everywhere.

This couple is too sweet. Last fall we did Heather and Kevins engagement session. I have a strange affection for the "warty pumpkins" all over in Door County. These two showed up at my studio, after their Fish Creek session, with a forever reminder. A warty pumpkin ornament that still hangs on my studio door. How sweet is that! :)

Positano Italy - Part ONE

Maggie & Marcus - THE WEDDING- Positano, Italy

An intimate wedding in Positano, Italy is about as good as it gets. It's screams pure romance, sunshine and amore!

Maggie and Marcus had a very easy going, family filled day. We started in their gorgeous room at the Hotel Savoia. It's exactly what you would dream a room to be like in Positano. They got ready together, which I loved! Then we headed to the ceremony at the town hall. A town hall quite different than what you would find in the states! :)

I think everyone there was wondering what would be said in a true Italian ceremony and, in my opinion, it was better than I could have imagined. The words they speak are all about equality and making a life together in support of each other and the home. The entire ceremony was simply gorgeous--- both the view and the words spoken.

Maggie and Marcus hosted a dinner that evening at La Tagliata restaurant. We all took a shuttle up the winding, one lane, roads and ended at this little slice of perfection. The view was unbelievable. The gardens would make anyone envious. There were 7 foot herbs growing down the rocks and truly, to much beauty to take in. The food was ENDLESS! At one point Marcus was giggling, in pain, because he knew he had two more courses to go. You would not believe the amount of food involved in traditional italian meals. Then came the music and dancing... it was all a night we will never forget.

After coming back down the mountain we met up with Maggie and Marcus and their amazing family by the beach. SOMEHOW, we all ended up swimming in the sea with ALL of our clothes on until 3:30 in the morning. I think Italy just fills you with joy and, apparently, a little craziness. Yeah, like I said, it's night we will never forget! :)

Maggie and Marcus! Words can not express what a fabulous time Adam and I had. Your wedding will forever be in our hearts. You are two of the kindest people we have ever had the pleasure of getting to know. I hope your extended time in Italy was just as amazing as the day you wed!

Maggie & Marcus - THE ENGAGEMENT - Italy

Maggie and Marcus had the best location for an engagement session. EVER! Hands down. Positano, Italy is a dream to vacation in and a dream to photograph in. It's a different world there. A place that is true to Italy's core but just as much a fishing, beach town. It's hot in the day and cool at night. It makes you relax into the atmosphere and people watch for hours... one of my favorite things. All you need is a bottle of wine, which is oh-so-easy to come by and you're set!

You can really only walk in Positano. It's a city on a hill so you climb the twenty thousand and one stairs all day, every day. It's actually quite fun because there are so many places to stop and so many things to look at during your many climbs throughout the day. Plus, you can eat as much homemade pasta, pizza and white bread as you want because, let me tell you, you work it off! :)

Positano is off the Amalfi Coast. It's a land of lemon and citrus groves. I have never, EVER seen such huge lemons. They were like basketballs!

There truly is nothing like REAL Italian gelato! yummy.... :)

Maggie is an animal lover. In Positano there are A LOT of stray cats and dogs running around. Maggie loved each and every one. Isn't Marcus so funny in the background... lol.

Lori & Justin THE WEDDING

We had a blast at Lori and Justins wedding. An absolute blast. First off, it was my kind of wedding. Meaning, the kind of wedding I would have if I could do it all over again. It was so intimate and the location could not have been more fitting.

Lori and Justin were wed at Roots Restaurant and Cellar in downtown Milwaukee. The outdoor area held the ceremony while inside held the dinner and dance. Roots has a very romantic, fun feel to it. Perfect for Lori and Justin because I would describe them the same way... romantic and fun.

This couple did so many things themselves and had gorgeous details everywhere. So, if you are looking for ideas you should take note and watch their slideshow. The thought and energy that went into this day is very impressive and oh so creative!

Meghan & George THE WEDDING

It was slightly ironic that during Meghan and Georges ceremony the pastor talked about the celebrity weddings happening this year AND throughout the day this wedding had so many cameras and videos going you would have thought it was the paparazzi! So funny! I don't know that I have ever seen so many flashes at once!

I wanted to share a little moment that I found to be wonderful. Alliey from Sash & Bow coordinated Meghan and Georges big day. She did an amazing job, as usual. Well, during Meghans fathers toast, he talked about how HE wanted to be the wedding planner but his daughter found him to be "not very creative." Then he talked about how they hired Alliey and how she was so great. Followed by, "NOW ALLIEY! She is creative--- at spending my money! She found ways to spend money I could never think of!" Oh, it was a priceless, hysterical moment! :) I just loved it!

Meghan and George, your day was perfection and we were so glad to be part of it. Your smiles and laughter made our job easy!

Kjrstin & Andrew THE WEDDING

Kjrstin and Andy are REAL people. That is what I adore about them. They love real, they laugh real and live real. They are so sweet and so kind. Everything about them is true, authentic and truly just them.

The Paine Art and Garden Center was their ceremony home. I mean, really, I don't think you could find something more gorgeous in Wisconsin. It's just a wedding happy land! Well, at least a wedding photographer happy land! :)

This wedding was truly equal parts Kjrstin and Andy. She got her gorgeous mansion wedding with flowers blooming everywhere, he got to wear a camouflage vest and tie. She got to have her breathtaking diamond ring and he wore his camo ring proudly. Oh, and who could forget the fact they forgo the traditional wedding cake for Cold Stone Creamery! Oh, yes... they each got to pick their favorite flavor. How amazing is that.

Tracy and Alan had the sunny, perfect day that couples dream of. There ceremony was held at at the Botanical Gardens and could not have been more gorgeous! Flowers, butterflies, and vintage baskets were tucked in the foliage wherever you wandered.

Cole is Alans son, and now Tracys. He is one of the most awesome kids I have ever met. He gets a little shout out for helping me with his Dads photos. Cole was kind of like the photography director, telling his dad to "love the camera!" It was hysterically funny.

The images themselves really tell the story here but I just wanted to share one more quick wedding moment. During the reception, Alans brother was able to Skype in from overseas. He is in the Air Force and was not able to attend the wedding. Very dear to my heart because my brother had Adam and I in the same boat at our own wedding.

I loved witnessing how happy Tracy and Alan were to see his face on their wedding day AND how happy their brother was. It was one of the best wedding moments ever. Thank the Lord for modern technology! :)

PS! Quick shout out to Sash and Bow for helping with the reception decor and Buds n Bloom for the flowers! Isn't Tracys bouquet LOVELY!? :)

Kristin & Aaron THE WEDDING

I checked my phone on they way down to Milwaukee. All across the screen, every hour, showed the lighting bolt. Never good! We arrived at the church and the sky went dark. Opened the car doors and God opened heavens doors... the rain came down.

Funny thing was, it rained hard and then let up. It became a gorgeous day out and it didn't start pouring again until late in the evening... which of course we took some umbrella advantage of.

My favorite part of their wedding was when Aarons childhood priest told his first memory of Aaron. He was an altar boy and after Holy Communion the priest found Aaron finishing off the wine! When he questioned what he was doing, Aaron responded, " you can't ever have enough Jesus!" Hysterical!

After lots of downtown photo fun we headed to their reception at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. It was our first time there and we loved it. What a phenomenal venue to have a wedding. Happiness to Buds n Bloom for really making the location into romantic bliss... loved this decor!

Dakotah and Dave are one of those couples that makes me love being a photographer even more. They are so sweet, up for anything and giddy in love.

On the morning of their wedding they were both calm and happy. Ready to be wed. Their smiles made that obvious to everyone around them. A little detail I loved was that they wrote each other letters and displayed them so guests could see as they walked into the church. Sweet, real feelings.

The rest of the day was picture perfection filled with sunshine and warm memories.

I hope you enjoy there beautiful wedding and beautiful personalities as much as I did! :)

Matt & Jessi A PROPOSAL STORY

Matt and Jessi have been dating for FIVE THOUSAND YEARS. Ok, maybe a little over four but it feels like a lot more! Matthew Sean :) is my little brother and only sibling. He met Jessi in the middle of his military ride on a trip back home to Wisconsin. But, that story is for a later date.

Today, I want to tell the story of Matts proposal! Yeah....

Matt and I went shopping for a ring a while ago. He picked it out, I was there to make sure it wasn't ugly! :) He knew he wanted to propose under the old Suamico train bridge. The place Jessi says they first kissed. Matt completely disagrees that was the "first kiss" location so he thought it would be the perfect place to make her smile.

The original idea was that I would be hiding in the 7 foot grass to capture the event in photos without Jessi seeing me. Well, after we had everything set up, I knew that me "hiding" had to go. I needed to get the shot and that meant being only a LITTLE hidden. Plus, I was wearing a skirt and didn't want those nasty weeds touching me! Hey, we are being honest.

The story was that Suamico was having a firemans picnic. Hence, the balloons in the road. So, Matt called and hung up at the one minute signal. I ran out and put the ring on the vintage green chair we stole from Jessis house. They pulled up and started walking towards me. I don't think I have ever been that nervous to get the photos. The emotions were running high! Then, Jessi says, "why is your sister hiding in the bushes!" Classic as so fantastically funny.

Best Friends & Babies

Julia and I were roommates our freshmen year of college. She is one of those friends that you thank God for putting in your life. One of those friends that truly "gets" you. One of those friends you can laugh and cry with. I adore her.

Luke and Julia were married 7 years ago this month! Time sure passes quickly. They are in the process of adopting a baby so we took some photos for them to document this gorgeous time and journey in their life.

This is Chunk. He is perfect. End of Story. Minus the flying slobber.

Ruby was jealous, so were let her steal the show for a second.

Lucy just finished her first round of swimming lessons. Seeing how she started off day one by clinging to the wall for dear life and crying her eyes out... by the end she was doing quite well! :)

Lucys new best friend, Maddie, is a fish! She helped Lucy to not be so afraid...

Film--- back in action

So, many of you know that a few weeks ago I dropped my Contax film camera onto the concrete and smashed it into forver-broken-land! Yes, I cried. For about 48 hours.

But, the process of finding a replacement is over and we are ready to go again! I just received my first test roll off the new camera.

Abby & Dan THE WEDDING

Some of my favorite moments shooting weddings are the unexpected ones. Moments like... you turn the corner of an alley and there sits an old red piano. Very strange, a little creepy, but TOTALLY photo ready! We reallly could not have dreamt up a better prop.

Abby and Dan were wrapped up in the joy of their day. The smiles were genuine and seemed to pour out from their souls. It really is an honor to photograph a couple that screams happiness! :)

Congrats you two. I hope these photographs greet you back from your honeymoon with happy memories of your perfect day!

Amy & Adam THE WEDDING

Moments create weddings. Real, honest moments. One of my favorite moments from Amy and Adams wedding was when Amys father saw her for the first time. Daddy's love for little girls just "gets" me. Hmmm... I wonder why! :) I will leave the photos to tell the rest of that story!

I think it crosses every mothers mind that MAYBE their daughter would wear their wedding dress some day. I have NEVER seen it happen. I have seen little pieces of moms dress tucked into the fabric layers and buttons attached here and there. I've even seen mothers veils worn again. Never the dress... until now! Amy and her mother kept a secret from everyone. They spent hours and hours with their seamstress, making a dress from her mothers wedding gown. They transformed what once was into a stunning cocktail dress that Amy wore during the dance. How perfect is that!

FILM IN A DIGITAL WORLD

We have been playing around with film for the last few months and just received another wonderfully delivery of rolls.

We will be sharing peeks all week with you starting now! :)

This part of the post is really for photographers OR the photography obsessed! We have been getting a lot of questions about the "difference" between a digital shot and film shot on the contax. Although, I really am IN LOVE with the contax it is not going to be replacing my canon 5D Mark II anytime soon. The canon does everything I need it to and will be my go to camera for all events. The Contax is my fun camera. It creates images that a digital camera can not. It's soft and pretty and perfect (in my eyes) right out of the camera. You don't need to do ANYTHING to the images. ANYTHING! If you are a photographer... you know how truly amazing that is.

Below are photographs showing the comparison. I would normally not let original, untouched images into the world :) BUT --- for comparison sake, I will! :)

Crazy difference in color, right!??? The skin tones are happiness!
Film just handles light very differently...

One of the biggest differences I see, is in the greens. The Contax produces a gorgeous blue, green...
I stared at this one a while. It's hard for me to believe that the red door image, on the right, has no retouching!

Quiana & Peter THE WEDDING

We had some time before the ceremony that we took photo advantage of. As we walked through the grass, I asked Peter how he was feeling. His response was something to the effect of, "As soon as I GET her, I'll feel a lot better." I laughed and asked what "get her" meant. He explained that as soon as her Dad gave him her hand after walking her down the aisle, then he would "get her" and all would be well! I loved it! He was taking it seriously and it could not have been more perfect.

Quiana and Peter had a day that was fit to them. There ceremony was not only about being wed but praising God. These high school sweethearts met because of choir so there was music found everywhere. They even sang a GLEE song to each other... so sweet.

The best part of the day, for me, was the end. When the bride danced with her father. He was very choked up and it truly took all of me to keep it together and not go into the "ugly cry!" :) Oh, geez....

Sally & Jon THE WEDDING

Oh, where do I start. I LOVE this wedding. Sally and Jon had a day to remember. I don't think I could count the times that I heard guests stating it was the BEST wedding they had ever attended. From the intimate ceremony in Fish Creek to the GORGEOUS reception at Woodwalk Gallery, it was all just so yummy!

With some amazing help from Door County Events, the day went on without a hitch. It was one perfect detail after another. Sallys dress was dreamy and her bouquet was magnificent. Everywhere I turned there were great photo opportunities.

Sally and Jon are two of the nicest people you could ever meet. Their family and friends were beyond wonderful and we had nothing but the warmest welcome and day. I hope you all enjoy this wedding as much as we did.

Abby & Dan THE ENGAGEMENT

Abby and Dan are both teachers and so very sweet. Now that school is out they are fully ready for their big day and the best part is that it's in just a few weeks!

We were blessed with the most gorgeous, sun filled day and it could not have been more perfect. We bummed around the Appleton river area and Lawrence campus. We truly took in all this beautiful evening had to offer. They laughed, kissed and enjoyed one another's company... like all engaged couples should! :)

Stephanie & Andrew THE WEDDING

I was smiling from ear to ear the morning of their wedding. Truth be told, you can't take a bad photo of these two so I knew it was going to be a great day. That it was.

I first met all these lovely people at Kristin & Russels wedding a few years ago. Kristin is the VERY pregnant bridesmaid :) yeah!!! babies!!! OK, back on track! Their friends and family are the kindest people you could ever meet and I love being able to see them again and again. There was so much happiness surrounding their big day.

For the photos, we found the most gorgeous location in a historic home. It was breathtaking and I could have spent the entire day there. Andrew even got a detailed history lesson while I was photographing Stephanie by herself. So funny! ;)

Congrats you two! We could not be more happy for you!

Melissa & Marc THE WEDDING

The forecast gave me a little scare. I thought I would, once again, be photographing Melissa and Marc in the pouring rain but thankfully the weather held off and their day was all that they dreamed it to be.

With the help of Allison from Sash and Bow and the Buds n Bloom crew... this black and white event proved to be perfection. Melissa and Marcs wedding had so many classy, gorgeous details. From the paper straws to the romantic lighting they really pulled off an affair to remember.

In case you were wondering about the MERCI :) Melissa and Marc live in France so it was fun to see the little details they brought home to the wedding from afar.

Patti & Matt THE WEDDING

After their engagement session, I knew Patti and Matts wedding was going to be perfection. Going into the day, the first thing I found out was that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, Patti made herself. She is a true DIY bride. From the paper goods to the bouquets and the cookie bar--- all her! I was seriously impressed.

The whimsical collected items were everywhere to be found and I was in love. Vintage tins, childrens antique books, old doors and fake photo mustaches. I mean, come on, what more can a photographer ask for! :)

Due to the fact that we have a wedding tomorrow, this is our "Friday" night. So, I wanted to leave you all with a little more eye candy for the long weekend.

Brittney, Ryan and their beautiful daughter are the cutest family. I was so happy to be able to document their engagement and this lovely chapter in their lives.

I love, love, love this type of engagement. A simple field, simple props, the sun and gorgeous subjects. Oh, and of course some love! :) Lots of love.

Allison & Chris - THE WEDDING

Allison and Chris were too cute. They had a first look as soon as we arrived at Heritage Hill and it had nothing to do with photos. It was completely just for them due to the fact the nerves were running high. After a few tears, a little laughter and a deep breath, they both relaxed and were ready to get married.

I have to point out how gorgeous Allisons laugh is. It's real and contagious. The best past is how her laughter makes Chris smile. What can I say, except he's in love! So sweet...
